Emma Stone Shares Her Love For 2NE1’s ‘I Am The Best’ With Conan O’Brien

Popular K-pop girl group 2NE1 has been saying “I am the Best” since 2011, and American actress Emma Stone happens to agree.

During a recent interview on “Conan,” Emma Stone dished on her love for K-pop and cited 2NE1’s iconic single as one of her favorites.
“It’s a global phenomenon,” exclaimed the 26-year-old actress.

“I like a song called ‘I am the Best,’ which I’m not going to try to say in Korean, but it’s incredible. It’s an older song too. I’m way behind the times.” But perhaps it’s not an accident the 2011 single has caught her attention. Last year, 2NE1 not only received attention for their record-breaking album “Crush,” but “I am the Best” experienced a resurgence as well.

“I am the Best” became a hot topic after it was included in Microsoft’s global commercial for the Surface Pro 3. Its popularity even penetrated American radio stations in New York and Boston. Reportedly, the 2NE1 single was reportedly played 24 times on WBMP New York and 14 times on WODS Boston in the week ending Oct. 19 of last year. “I feel like I’ve been singing that song for years, in the mirror,” teased Conan O’Brien.

After 2NE1 appeared on American television shows like “The Bachelor” and “America’s Next Top Model,” the group has gone on hiatus as lead rapper Lee “CL” Chaerin prepares for her American solo debut. Later in the summer, CL is expected take her live stages stateside.

Organized by Diplo’s record label Mad Decent, Mad Decent Block Party focuses on global pop and dance music. In 2015, 22 concerts across 19 cities have been announced in North America, and CL will appear in three performances in August and September. “CL will be appearing for a total of three times, on August 9 in New York’s Brooklyn, on Sept. 11 in California’s Berkley and Sept. 19 in Los Angeles,” confirmed YG-Life.

We Broke Up: first preview for 2NE1’s Dara upcoming web drama

On June 19, YG Entertainment released preview videos for the upcoming web drama, “We Broke Up.”

“We Broke Up” stars 2NE1’s Dara (Sandara Park) as a disgruntled young woman who is forced into cohabitation with her ex-boyfriend. Kang Seung Yoon portrays her former lover. The couple exchanged barbs in the teaser video, which features reality show style confessional shots. Dara recently completed the web series, “Dr. Ian” and delivered a cameo performance in “Producer.” The 30-year-old idol and actress displays believable chemistry with Kang, that is paired with the level of distrust that evolves from failed relationships.

While she is known by international audiences for her singing career as a member of 2NE1, Dara debuted as an actress in the Philippines in 2004. In 2005, she appeared in her first prominent film role in the Filipino project, “Can This Be Love.”

Kang delivered cameo appearances, alongside Dara, in “Producer.” He is best known for his work with the breakout male group, WINNER and his 2013 solo release, “Wild and Young.” His first significant acting role was opposite Lee Jong Suk and Krystal of f(x) in the family drama, “High Kick 3: Revenge of the Short Legged.”

Based on a Naver webtoon, “We Broke Up” is the first major dramatic project from YG. The series will be co-directed by Kim Young Wan, who was previously responsible for the popular drama, “Love Cells.” With more than 600 million views, “Love Cells” helped to usher in the growing web drama trend.

“We Broke Up” will also prominently feature models-turned-actors, who are represented by YG KPlus, including Ford Supermodel of the World, Kang Seung Hyun. Web series have become a prominent vehicle for showcasing idols, particularly those who are interested in pursuing acting careers. Recent successes include GOT7’s “Dream Knight” and the EXO hit, “EXO Next Door.”

2NE1’s CL Performs English Single ‘Dr. Pepper’ For The First Time

Although she is a K-pop idol, 2NE1’s Lee “CL” Chaerin has been busy performing her English singles at various venues, including the newly released track, “Dr. Pepper.”

On Saturday, CL performed at Korea’s iteration of the Ultra Music Festival (UMF). Here, the rapper performed “Dr. Pepper” for the first time to a live audience. “Put it on ice b*tch,” captioned the 24-year-old on Instagram, along with a snippet of the performance. This is not the first time CL has performed at UMF. In March, the 2NE1 member made a cameo appearance at UMF Miami alongside Skrillex, Diplo and P.Diddy.

“CL staged a collaboration performance with Skrillex, Diplo and P. Diddy who stood on UMF’s finale stage as headliners,” read the record label YG Entertainment’s blog. “As many as 100,000 people were present at the festival and more than 6.87 million viewers around the world watched it through live-broadcasting.” With “Dr. Pepper” produced by Diplo, it is expected the producer is heavily involved with CL’s solo debut.

“CL’s album, I’m working really closely on,” said Diplo to iHeartRadio in April. “She’s a Korean pop star who sings and raps. She’s on Skrillex and my ‘Dirty Vibe’ song. She’s just awesome. I’m so proud of the stuff we did. She’s really cool.” Later in the summer, CL is expected take her live stages stateside.

Yang Hyun Suk Promises New 2NE1 Album Before Group’s Contract Expiration

YG Entertainment CEO Yang Hyun Suk reveals that his priority in the near term is to ensure the success of 2NE1 leader CL’s impending solo debut in the United States. But he was quick to assure that 2NE1 will continue to be active, even promising a new album before the members’ contracts expire next year, reports Koreaboo.

In fact, Yang Hyun Suk even explained that if CL’s stateside promotions become successful, this could prove as a boon for the group and could even serve as a staging point for possible stateside group activities.

“CL’s album work is almost completed to be released in the States. It has consistently been prepared since last year. Promotion in America is a different story to that in Korea. Honestly, we don’t know whether or not this will be successful until we actually try. But in my perspective, CL’s solo promotion is what I prioritize the most at this stage,” said Yang Hyun Suk in an interview.

“2NE1’s contract with YG Entertainment is valid until next year. They will most definitely release an album before that. As soon as CL’s solo promotion in America ends, 2NE1 will release a new album. CL’s advanced success in America will impact 2NE1’s comeback direction. If CL’s goes big in America, there is a higher possibility that 2NE1 will stand in American stage as well.”
CL is scheduled to launch as a solo artist in the United States this summer. Unlike other 2NE1 members whose contracts will expire next year, CL renewed her contract ahead of time in early April in order to secure her solo activities.

2NE1 leader CL displayed a sleek new hairstyle on Instagram.

CL confidently wore her wavy and layered locks and showed it off in a series of four selfies she uploaded for her 2.3 million Instagram followers to see. “I love the new haircut it suits you,” “Wow CL you look more gorgeous,” “You look so fresh unnie,” fans reacted after seeing CL’s new hairstyle.

The new hairstyle comes as CL begins her stateside promotions as a solo artist. Just over the weekend, CL gained attention as part of DJ Diplo’s newly released single, “Doctor Pepper” with Billboard reporting that the crossover Korean idol is preparing her full-length English album.

The collaboaration with DJ Diplo is “an appetizer ahead of her official debut single,” adds Billboard. CL has been garnering positive reviews for her part in the summer track from the likes of Complex and Vice. “Behind the electronic-trap production, CL delivers a memorable and catchy hook that transitions into her solid verse that more than keeps up with Jody and Maco on the track,” gushes Complex’s Zach Frydenlund.

“It’s really easy to see why CL has made such a dominant entrance into American music; she keeps up no problem against Maco and Jody Highroller,” says Vice’s John Hill.

2NE1’s Dara to join Jinusean on stage for “Tell Me One More Time” this week

This week, Blackjacks can expect Dara to take the stage once again as she will be featuring in Jinusean‘s stage for “Tell Me One More Time.”

According to Jinusean, following the group’s first collaboration stage on KBS Yoo Hee Yeol’s Sketchbook, many fans have been requesting for them to collaborate again. Hearing the fans’ requests and adding, “We like 2NE1’s music too,” Dara will be joining the duo on stage as requested in lieu Jang Hanna.

Dara and Jinusean

This is an exciting piece of news, though not nearly surprising as fellow YG Entertainment artist Epik High utilized the same promotion technique of switching featured singers during their “Happen Ending” stages, which included 2NE1‘s Minzy, Akdong Musician‘s Lee Suhyun, Younha, and more, giving the track a different feel provoked by different vocalists.
